Job summary

Innovative Consulting & Management Services (ICMS) is seeking dependable Maintenance Trades Helpers to support skilled personnel in the operation, repair, and upkeep of building systems and facilities in Beltsville, MD. You will assist with preventive maintenance, organize tools and parts, and help maintain safe work areas under supervision.

The role requires following safety procedures, basic mechanical aptitude, and effective communication in English.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience in building maintenance or related trades preferred.
  • Familiarity with hand and power tools and safe work practices.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work independently.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks and communicate effectively in English.

Responsibilities

  • Assist skilled maintenance trades personnel in preventive maintenance and repairs.
  • Supply, carry, stage, and organize tools, parts, materials, and equipment.
  • Assist with basic maintenance tasks such as cleaning, replacing filters, and lubricating equipment.
  • Prepare work areas and maintain safe access.
  • Observe equipment conditions and report safety or functional issues.
  • Follow lockout/tagout and PPE procedures.
  • Support inventory with receiving and organizing supplies.
  • Perform general facility maintenance support duties as assigned.

ICMS is looking for dependable Maintenance Trades Helpers to support skilled maintenance personnel in the operation, repair, and upkeep of building systems, equipment, and facilities. Working under the direction of qualified trades personnel and site supervision, this position assists with routine maintenance activities, provides tools and materials, prepares and cleans work areas, and performs basic tasks that support safe and efficient completion of preventive and corrective maintenance work.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist skilled maintenance trades personnel, including mechanics, electricians, HVAC technicians, plumbers, and other craft workers, in performing preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, and equipment servicing.
  • Supply, carry, stage, and organize tools, parts, materials, ladders, equipment, and other items required by skilled trades personnel at the work location.
  • Assist with basic maintenance tasks such as removing and replacing filters, lubricating equipment, cleaning components, replacing non-technical consumable items, and performing other routine work as directed and within the employee’s qualifications.
  • Prepare work areas by moving materials and equipment, setting up protective coverings or barriers, and maintaining safe access to the work location.
  • Clean work areas, mechanical spaces, tools, machines, and equipment following work activities; properly collect and dispose of debris and waste materials.
  • Assist trades personnel with holding, positioning, measuring, fastening, or removing materials and components during maintenance and repair activities.
  • Retrieve parts, supplies, and materials from designated storage areas and assist with receiving, organizing, and maintaining maintenance inventory.
  • Observe equipment conditions and promptly report leaks, damage, unusual noises, unsafe conditions, or other apparent deficiencies to the appropriate technician or supervisor.
  • Follow established work orders, safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, PPE requirements, and supervisor instructions while supporting maintenance activities.
  • Perform other general facility maintenance support duties and less-skilled tasks as assigned to support contract operations.
Required Qualifications:
  • A High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Previous experience supporting building maintenance, facilities operations, construction, mechanical work, or a skilled trade environment is preferred.
  • Familiarity with hand and power tools, maintenance equipment, and safe work practices.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal work instructions and assist skilled trades personnel with assigned maintenance activities.
  • Must be able to work independently with no supervision after receiving direction.
  • Ability to perform physical work, including standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing, lifting, carrying, and moving equipment as required for assigned duties.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and work cooperatively with supervisors, technicians, facility personnel, and other team members.
  • Ability to recognize and report unsafe conditions and comply with established safety, environmental, and facility procedures.
Licenses, Training and Certifications:
  • A valid state’s driver's license (with no major infractions) is required.
  • OSHA, safety, equipment, or trade-related training is desired.
  • Training in the proper use of hand tools, power tools, PPE, lockout/tagout, and applicable facility maintenance procedures will be provided or required as appropriate.
Security Clearance:

All contractor personnel must attain and maintain a USDA LincPass and pass a background check; personnel must be U.S. Citizens or Lawful Permanent Residents.

Job Type: Non-Exempt (SCA), Full-Time Onsite Position (Telecommute not considered for this position)

Work schedules are subject to change based on client and company needs. This position may be required to support scheduled, after-hours, or emergency maintenance activities based on contract requirements.

$20.27 per hour
