Job summary

The City of Tolleson is seeking a Maintenance Technician II – Streets to perform skilled repairs and preventive maintenance on city streets, sidewalks, signage, and other public right-of-way infrastructure.

The role operates heavy equipment, sets up traffic control, and prioritizes work orders to ensure the safety of workers and residents. A High School Diploma or GED is required and a valid Class A or B CDL with endorsements including Airbrake is required at hire.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required with 2 years of work experience or equivalent.
  • Must have a valid Class A or B CDL with Airbrake endorsements at hire.
  • Three years experience and Traffic Control Certification and Pesticide Applicator Certification highly desired.
  • Knowledge of maintenance and repair principles, safe vehicle operation, and heavy equipment.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment and hand tools.
  • Strong math calculation ability.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with coworkers and public.

Responsibilities

  • Perform semi-skilled to skilled repairs and maintenance on public right-of-way infrastructure.
  • Operate heavy equipment and maintenance vehicles safely.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and diagnose issues to determine repairs.
  • Set up traffic control signs and barricades for safety.
  • Document work in logs, reports, and records.
  • Prioritize work orders and schedule tasks.

Description

The City of Tolleson is seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as Maintenance Technician II- Streets. The Maintenance Technician II – Streets position is responsible for performing semi-skilled to skilled repairs and maintenance on public right-of-way infrastructure. Duties include inspecting, troubleshooting, and diagnosing issues to determine the appropriate repairs and preventative maintenance needed. The technician will operate specialized and heavy equipment; maintain and repair City streets, sidewalks, signage, easements, alley ways, and related property; and document all work performed in logs, reports, and records. This role also involves prioritizing work orders and setting up traffic control signs and barricades to ensure the safety of both workers and citizens; and performs related work as assigned.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution and as assigned, two (2) years of work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. A valid Class A or B CDL with applicable endorsements, including Airbrake, is required at time of hire.

Desired Experience/Knowledge

A candidate with three (3) years experience in a related field, along with a Traffic Control Certification (TCT or TCS) and a Pesticide Applicator Certification is highly desired.

Physical Requirements/Work Conditions

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, and intense noises.

Full Salary Range : $25.85 - $36.19 Hourly
