Qualifications

  • Arizona driver license required; ability to obtain Commercial Driver's License within six months.
  • ATSSA or LTAP Flagger or Work zone training or certification within six months of employment.
  • ADEQ operator grade 1 certification in the applicable area within twelve months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects and repairs chlorine machines, booster pumping stations, reservoirs, meters, streets, drainage and sewer systems to ensure proper operation.
  • Maintains records related to inspections, maintenance activities, water supply and consumption.
  • Locates gas, telephone, power, TV, water, and sewer lines before excavation.
  • Responds to complaints about water, wastewater and road problems; evaluates situation and reports findings to supervisor.
  • Informs residents and businesses when services will be discontinued and explains when service will resume.
  • Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on equipment; reports defects to supervisor and cleans gear.
  • Operates light/medium vehicles and power equipment (brooms, jetter trucks, backhoes, excavators, skid steers, lifts, dump trucks, snowplows).
  • Operates jackhammers, mowers and other small equipment to maintain streets and utilities.
  • Performs construction and maintenance tasks as part of a crew (pavement work, ditching, manholes, line cleaning, pipe repair, backfilling, traffic control).
  • Follows safety and health rules; seeks to improve operations and reduce turnaround times.
  • Supports organizational and departmental goals with a strong customer service orientation.
  • Performs additional similar duties as assigned.

Education

Arizona driver license

Inspects and/or repairs chlorine machine, booster pumping stations, reservoirs, meters, streets, drainage systems and sewer systems at frequent intervals to ensure that all aspects of the systems are functioning properly.


Maintains a variety of records relating to inspections, maintenance activity, water supply, consumption, etc


Determines the locations of gas, telephone, power, television, water, and sewer lines from the appropriate sources prior to excavation


Responds to complaints regarding water, wastewater, and road problems; evaluates situation; explains findings to supervisor.


Contacts residents and business owners in areas where services will be discontinued and explains when services will be shut off and how soon they will be turned back on.


Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment/tools and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment.


Operates light and medium-sized vehicles, construction, and power equipment, such as mechanized broom, jetter/inductor truck, backhoe/loader, excavators, skid steers, man-lift, dump truck and snowplows


Operates jackhammers, mowers and other small equipment and tools to maintain street and utility systems


Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including but not limited to pavement cutting, ditch digging, manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying and backfilling, installation, and maintenance of traffic control devices.


Performs all duties in strict compliance with appropriate safety and security standards. Ensures all applicable safety and health rules and regulations are followed. Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times and streamline work processes


Participates in the accomplishment of organizational, departmental and workgroup goals and objectives. Exhibits a high-level service orientation toward customers and maintains productive working relationships


Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned


These requirements must be met to move into the Maintenance Technician series positions.


  1. Valid Arizona Drivers License and ability to obtain ability to obtain a Commercial Drivers License within six (6) months of employment.
  2. ATSSA or LTAP Flagger or Work zone current training or certified within 6 months of employment.
  3. Streets, Water and Wastewater Employees
    1. Attainment of ADEQ operator grade 1 certification in area specified by department (i.e., Wastewater Treatment, Water Treatment, Wastewater Collection, Water Distribution) within twelve (12) months of employment.
