Job summary

City of Charlottesville is seeking a Maintenance Worker II or III in Charlottesville, VA, based on qualifications. The role involves semi-skilled labor, sidewalk, concrete, and street infrastructure tasks under a Maintenance Crew Supervisor.

Training and a benefits package accompany the position, with shift options subject to crew needs. The selected candidate will perform routine maintenance, repair and construction tasks, operate hand tools, and assist senior workers while maintaining safety

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and general knowledge of maintenance, construction, and repair work including knowledge of mechanical/automotive equipment.
• One year of work experience in general maintenance, construction, and repair work including knowledge of mechanical/automotive equipment.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the specific requirements listed above.

Responsibilities

• Assists with maintenance, repair, and/or construction projects.
• Supports and completes maintenance and repair assignments according to required specifications.
• Supports the preparation of job sites for the maintenance and repair of infrastructure, facilities, and/or grounds.
• Assists senior workers in semiskilled work, emergency operations, and other tasks.
• Operates hand tools and power equipment associated with maintenance, repair, custodial, and construction operations.
• Conducts cleanup and restoration work on assignments.
• Attends meetings concerning safety, procedures, and practices.
• May operate a vehicle in the performance of duties.
• Subject to be called back to work to the City in emergencies or as needed to provide necessary services to the public.
• Responsible for appropriate use and maintenance of City equipment, tools and other resources including work time.
• Regular and reliable attendance.
