Job summary

The City of Harrisonburg is seeking a Technician II in Street Maintenance to operate a range of equipment, perform concrete work, and supervise crew members. A valid CDL and prior ground-maintenance experience are preferred, with a comprehensive benefit package offered.

The role requires ability to handle daily reports, inventory tasks, and participate in a rotating stand-by schedule for off-hours emergencies. This is a full-time position with competitive hourly rates and a defined hiring range.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.
• CDL license required; CDL holders will be considered for other levels if not met.
• 6+ months to several years of experience operating motorized equipment in facilities/grounds maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Operate medium to large motorized equipment and perform minor repairs.
• Use handheld tools like concrete saws and jackhammers; assist with equipment operation.
• Operate backhoe, loader, dump truck, tractor and related equipment.
• Install, repair, maintain, and clean facilities and grounds; set forms and grades.
• Screen and finish concrete, joints, and decorative patterns; supervise crew members.
