Job summary

Smithfield Foods, Inc. is seeking a Maintenance Technician in Des Moines, IA to keep our plant running smoothly by maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical and mechanical equipment in a fast-paced food processing environment.

You will work on systems of varying complexity, performing hands-on repairs, preventive maintenance, and critical technical support across the operation. A strong problem-solving mindset and safety adherence are required for success in this role.

Qualifications

• Electrical controls, fluid power, mechanical systems, welding, and fabrication expertise.
• High school diploma or GED required; 1+ years in industrial maintenance or 4 years in food manufacturing maintenance.
• Vocational/technical diploma or associate degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review work orders and assess tools, equipment, time, manpower, parts, and supplies.
• Use SAP to create work orders.
• Respond to emergency calls with appropriate tools to restore production quickly.
• Read blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and manuals to diagnose issues.
• Perform preventive maintenance on pumps, packaging, slicing equipment, and more.
• Disassemble, troubleshoot, replace parts, and test repairs.
• Fabricate replacement parts via welding, cutting, and sheet metal work.
• Install and maintain mechanical equipment, piping, and electrical controls.
• Adhere to preventive/predictive maintenance schedules and safety protocols.
