Job summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking a Maintenance Technician in Des Moines, IA to keep our plant running smoothly by maintaining and repairing electrical and mechanical equipment in a fast‑paced environment. You’ll handle troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and hands‑on fixes across multiple systems.

Ideal candidates have a HS diploma or GED with relevant maintenance experience; a technical diploma is preferred.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED with 1+ years in industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing.
• Technical diploma or associate degree preferred.
• Ability to operate forklift or PIT.
• Ability to read and follow work orders and manuals.

Responsibilities

• Efficient Work Order & Emergency Response – Review work orders, use SAP to create work orders, and respond quickly to emergencies.
• Hands‑On Maintenance & Equipment Repair – Monitor, disassemble, repair, and test mechanical systems; fabricate parts when needed.
• Installation & System Maintenance – Install and maintain mechanical equipment, piping, and electrical controls per specs and safety rules.
• Technical Skills & Problem‑Solving – Use basic tools and preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.
• Safety First – Follow LOCKOUT/TAGOUT and GMPs to keep a safe work environment.
