Job summary

Viking Packaging in New Paltz, NY is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Supervisor to lead the maintenance team and ensure reliability, safety, and efficiency of our manufacturing operations. The role coordinates daily maintenance, preventive programs, inventory, and outside contractors to minimize downtime and support continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of industrial or manufacturing maintenance experience.
• Minimum of 3 years supervising, leading, or coordinating a maintenance team.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and equipment repair skills; electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic experience preferred.
• Experience scheduling preventive maintenance and coordinating equipment inspections and repairs.
• Ability to analyze equipment wear, recurring failures, and maintenance costs to recommend repair or replacement.
• Experience managing maintenance inventory, purchasing parts, and coordinating outside contractors.
• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement principles.
• Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• High school diploma or GED required; technical training or relevant certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring maintenance activities follow established safety procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO).
• Lead and develop a team of four Maintenance Mechanics; assign daily work and priorities.
• Schedule and oversee preventive maintenance, inspections, and equipment servicing.
• Track equipment wear, repair history, and maintenance costs; advise on repair vs. replacement.
• Maintain inventory levels of parts and supplies; coordinate purchasing.
• Coordinate outside vendors for repairs, installations, and building maintenance.
• Oversee upkeep of manufacturing equipment and facility infrastructure to minimize downtime.
• Partner on 5S, Lean Six Sigma, and process-improvement projects with Operational Excellence.
• Keep Plant Manager informed on issues, priorities, and major repairs; maintain records.
