Job summary

Texas Health and Human Services Commission is seeking a Maintenance Specialist III to perform journey-level maintenance across building systems at Big Spring State Hospital. You’ll inspect, repair, and service plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and related systems, ensuring safety and reliability while maintaining detailed work orders.

The role requires vocational trade training or equivalent experience, a valid Texas driver license, and the ability to pass background and drug screening.

Qualifications

• Vocational training in one or more trades such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, or welding.
• Two years' experience in construction, maintenance, or equipment/vehicle repair with breadth across trades.
• Must possess a valid Texas driver license or obtain it within 90 days after hire.
• Candidates must pass background checks, pre-employment drug screen, and other regulatory checks.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, and repair building systems (plumbing, HVAC, electrical, welding, carpentry, painting).
• Complete and maintain work orders and material records; document activities.
• Operate heavy machinery as needed and provide guidance to others.
• Work independently or as part of a team to ensure uninterrupted campus services.
