Job summary

Texas Health and Human Services Commission in San Antonio, TX seeks a Maintenance Specialist II to perform routine and complex building maintenance at state hospital facilities. Responsibilities include inspections, repairs, and renovations across plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and carpentry disciplines, with emphasis on safety and accurate work-order documentation.

The role is full-time, nonexempt, with day shifts, occasional overtime, up to 10% travel, and offers competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of building maintenance, plumbing, HVAC, sanitation, refrigeration, and/or electrical systems.
• Knowledge of industrial safety, fire, and safety regulations.
• Skill in preventive maintenance, inspections of buildings and building systems.
• Skill in the use of hand tools, power tools and equipment.
• Ability to perform maintenance, follow instructions, and interpret drawings, schematics, or sketches.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally or in writing with the maintenance/facility team.

Responsibilities

• Performs inspections, adjustments, maintenance, and repair work on building systems in accordance with codes and standards for trades (plumbing, HVAC, welding, carpentry, painting, electrical).
• Uses hand tools or equipment while performing repairs or inspections.
• Performs repairs and renovations to modernize a building or adapt it for new uses.
• Maintains records on work orders, projects, and material requisitions.
• May operate heavy machinery (backhoes, forklifts) as necessary.
• May train others on procedures for repairs or inspections.
