Job summary

Texas Health and Human Services Commission in Mexia, TX is hiring a Maintenance Specialist II (Painter). You will perform routine maintenance, painting, repairs, and renovations to facility buildings and systems, under guidance from senior technicians.

The role requires safe operation of tools, accurate record-keeping, and teamwork across shops to support core operations. The position involves standard day shifts, occasional overtime, and potential on-call duties to meet facility needs.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of building maintenance, plumbing, HVAC, sanitation, refrigeration, and/or electrical systems.
• Knowledge of industrial safety and fire safety regulations.
• Skilled in preventive maintenance and inspections of buildings and building systems.
• Proficient with hand tools and power tools used in maintenance work.
• Ability to follow instructions and interpret drawings, schematics, or sketches.
• Excellent written and oral communication with team members.

Responsibilities

• Attend regular work shifts as assigned, possibly rotating or extended hours.
• Perform inspections, maintenance and repair on building systems (plumbing, HVAC, electrical, painting, carpentry).
• Repair or renovate buildings and systems to meet new uses or improve efficiency.
• Use tools and safety equipment to perform tasks; document work orders and materials.
• May operate heavy equipment and train others in proper procedures.
• Support disaster response or COOP activation as needed.
