About Us
The St. Louis Jewish Community Center (the J) has been providing excellent health and cultural experiences for the entire community for over 140 years. We are hiring for Maintenance Specialist to join our team to work in our facilities both in Creve Coeur and Chesterfield. This is a full-time, hourly position.

Responsibilities:
- Perform cost effective daily maintenance and preventative maintenance. This includes the physical plant, pools, grounds, and departmental equipment.
- Prepare and maintain service drawings and maps.
- Maintain written records and schedule maintenance with vendors when needed.
- Be responsible for reports on purchases, deliveries, maintenance, and expenditures.
- Provide input into developing and documenting the policies and procedures of the Maintenance team. Ensure execution of policies and procedures and provide feedback to ensure continual improvement of internal processes.
- Foster a collaborative culture by partnering across departments and within the Building and Grounds team to identify, prioritize and meet facility needs and organizational mission.
- Assist with the day-to-day operations of the Building and Grounds Department, in relation to staffing, maintenance, operations, room set up and cleaning as needed.
- When needed, act as acting supervisor on duty in absence of Maintenance Supervisor which might include supervising the work of outside contractors.
- Be available and responsive for building wide events and emergencies, including evenings and weekends.
- Support both J locations as needed.
Requirements:
- Three to five years of experience in construction and maintenance of industrial, public, or institutional buildings; one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
- One to three years of experience in electrical (110, 220, 440), plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, and general repair is required.
- High School Diploma or GED is required; Related College or Technical degree .
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) . If not, will train within 90 days.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification . If not, will train.
- Knowledge of building codes, shop practice, and engineering design.
- Knowledge of building construction methods, materials and equipment is required.
- Ability to effectively use business automation and payroll software, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook), and databases. Salesforce proficiency a plus.
- Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills, including completing detailed repair reports.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and projects simultaneously and prioritize appropriately.
- Must have the ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with other JCC staff, lay leaders, and customers.
- Must be attentive to details with outstanding internal and external customer service skills.
- Ability to effectively collaborate across departments and with external customers and vendors.
- Flexible schedule to allow for weekend and evening work is required.
- Able to volunteer to work set up and tear down for events. May require adjusting hours or time outside of normal business hours.
