Qualifications

Overview

The Formulary Maintenance Specialist will support clinical pharmacists, administer and maintain formularies for pharmacy benefit management, and assist with the residency program and pharmacy students, as directed by the Formulary Operations Manager.

Position Location

This is a remote-based position within the Continental US.

Responsibilities
  • Assist clinical pharmacists in building and maintaining independent formularies.
  • Perform formulary comparisons against standards in collaboration with clinical pharmacists.
  • Stay informed of drug recalls, new medications, and studies; provide daily updates to the pharmacy team.
  • Organize and maintain schedules for pharmacy students and residents.
  • Collaborate with the manager on the residency program.
  • Support report generation for clinical pharmacy staff, including creating and formatting reports.
  • Serve as liaison between clinical pharmacy staff and other departments such as IT, Customer Service, and Member Services.
  • Assist with formulary coverage inquiries and drug reviews.
  • Maintain prior authorization criteria and interact with physicians and staff regarding prior authorizations.
  • Generate and maintain formulary lists and drug market information.
  • Create, revise, and maintain departmental policies and documents.
  • Assist with scheduling and coordinating meetings, including preparing agendas and facilitating virtual meetings.
  • Perform special projects as assigned.
  • Report any allegations of misconduct to the Compliance Department.
  • Comply with ethical and compliance policies, including maintaining eligibility on exclusion lists.
  • Complete required training within established timeframes.
  • Maintain regular attendance and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent; Licensed Pharmacy Technician required.

Experience: 5+ years in pharmacy, PBM, or healthcare experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Critical thinking
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and internet research
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • Adaptability and multitasking skills
  • Attention to detail and proofreading skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, drug names, indications, and therapeutic categories
