Overview

The Formulary Maintenance Specialist will support clinical pharmacists by administering and maintaining formularies for pharmacy benefit management, and assist with the residency program and pharmacy students under the guidance of the Formulary Operations Manager.

Position Location

This is a remote-based position within the Continental US.

Responsibilities

  1. Assist clinical pharmacists in building and maintaining independent formularies.
  2. Perform formulary comparisons to our standards in collaboration with pharmacists.
  3. Stay informed about drug recalls, new medications, studies, and provide updates to the pharmacy team.
  4. Organize and maintain schedules for pharmacy students and residents.
  5. Collaborate on the residency program with the manager.
  6. Support report generation for clinical pharmacy staff, including creating and finalizing reports.
  7. Serve as a liaison between clinical pharmacy and other departments such as IT, Customer Service, and Member Services.
  8. Assist with formulary coverage inquiries and drug review preparations for meetings.
  9. Review prior authorization requests and maintain related criteria.
  10. Engage with healthcare providers regarding prior authorizations.
  11. Maintain formulary lists, drug lists, and new drug market lists.
  12. Create, revise, and maintain department policies and documents, proofreading and formatting as needed.
  13. Handle protected health information securely.
  14. Assist with scheduling meetings and coordinating logistics for the clinical department.
  15. Facilitate meetings by preparing agendas and coordinating virtual arrangements.
  16. Engage in special projects as assigned.
  17. Report any ethical concerns to the Compliance Department.
  18. Adhere to Maxor’s ethical policies and compliance programs, ensuring no exclusion from Medicare/Medicaid lists.
  19. Complete required training timely and maintain regular attendance.
  20. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent; Licensed Pharmacy Technician required.

Experience: At least 5 years of pharmacy experience; PBM or healthcare experience is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet research.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Adaptability and multitasking capabilities.
  • Attention to detail and proofreading skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, drug names, indications, and therapeutic classes.
