Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Maintenance and rehabilitation of DOTD buildings, facilities, and welcome centers.
• Construct additions, renovate, repair roofs, and install interior finishes and fixtures.
• Install and repair plumbing, electrical, and HVAC components as needed.
• Coordinate purchasing of materials and supervise maintenance crews.

About This Job

District Wide Facility Maintenance position. Applicants with advanced carpentry / plumbing skills are encouraged to apply. The incumbent will work in rest areas within DOTD as well as other DOTD area units and facilities. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Maintenance Repair Master, responsible for the maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation of all DOTD owned buildings, facilities, and welcome centers in District 62. This position is located in Unit 701 in Hammond, Louisiana and reports directly to the Maintenance Foreman. Serves as team leader responsible for the maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation of all DOTD-owned buildings, facilities, and welcome centers. Coordinates and performs purchasing of materials and supplies in accordance with departmental policy and procurement requirements. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. The incumbent must be self-motivated and able to perform duties many times with or without direct supervision and be knowledgeable enough to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise.

Minimum Qualifications

• One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience:
• Three years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR
• Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering plus one year of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR
• Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses plus one year of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance.

Job Duties and Other Information

• Maintenance and rehabilitation work includes constructing additions, renovating existing facilities, repairing and replacing roofs, and installing paneling, floor tile, ceramic tile, ceiling tile, sheetrock, molding, cabinets, countertops, doors, windows, and vinyl siding.
• Installs and repairs door locks and window air-conditioning units.
• Performs concrete work including forming, pouring, and finishing concrete slabs and catch basins at DOTD facilities and right-of-ways.
• Completes framing for new construction and related structural repairs as needed.
• Maintains, repairs, and installs plumbing systems, including removal and replacement of fixtures such as commodes, faucets, urinals, water fountains, sinks, P-traps, supply lines, and cut-off valves.
• Repairs water, sewer, and gas lines, and installs heaters and associated ventilation systems.

Compensation:

MAINTENANCE REPAIRER MASTER - Starting salary is $21.05/hourly

Required

• Valid Chauffeur’s License (Class “D”) is required at time of appointment. (Candidates not possessing a Chauffer’s License (Class D) at the time of hire can be employed and will be notified in writing that documented proof of possession of the necessary Chauffer’s License (Class D) must be provided as a condition of employment during the probationary period)
• Lifting: a minimum lifting capacity of 50 pounds
