About This Position

Are you someone who enjoys working with your hands and takes pride in creating quality finishes and maintaining facilities? As a Painter Master, you will play an important role in keeping DOTD facilities looking their best through skilled painting, staining, refinishing, sheet-rock, and floor repair work. This position offers the opportunity to oversee and guide other painters and trade apprentices while working on a variety of projects at DOTD Headquarters and satellite offices. The role requires comfort working indoors and outdoors, at varying heights, and in different weather conditions while following DOTD safety standards and procedures.

While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience:

• Three years of experience or training in the painting trade.

• Perform highly skilled painting tasks, including specialized coating work, fine-detail painting, staining, and refinishing on buildings, structures, equipment, and other surfaces.
• Oversee the work of painters and provide technical expertise, guidance, and training to painters and trade apprentices.
• Prepare surfaces for painting by removing old paint, cleaning, sanding, and using appropriate preparation techniques.
• Sand, stain, varnish, and refinish furniture using appropriate tools, materials, and methods.

Position-Specific Details

• Appointment Type: This position may be filled by Probation, Promotion, Job Appointment or Detail to Special Duty.
• Compensation: Starting pay from $ 21.05 up to $33.68 plus an additional $2.00 for every hour worked. Applicants with extraordinary qualifications may be eligible for appointment above the minimum rate in accordance with Civil Service Rule 6.5(g).
