Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking an Engineer II (NS) to provide technical and administrative support to the Division Maintenance staff, including budgeting, reporting, and contract administration. The role involves tracking expenditures, developing budgets, and coaching staff on cost-management strategies across the division.

Minimum education is a Bachelor’s degree in engineering with at least three years of progressively responsible experience; a professional engineer

Qualifications

• Must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle.
• Experience writing memos, reports, and emails that clearly convey technical information.
• Experience in planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
• Working knowledge and skill in the use of computer equipment, software and mathematical functions.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff across the Department, other agencies, and the public.
• Experience in tracking operation cost expenditures.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical and administrative support to the Division Maintenance staff.
• Support program budgets and WBS numbers, prepare monthly budget reports, monitor expenses, and maintain databases.
• Assist with budgeting, tracking expenditures, generating and analyzing reports, and coaching peers and maintenance supervisors.
• Assist with development of new contracts for maintenance functions and administration of ID/IQ contracts.
• Track the Division’s Secondary Road Construction program and oversee special projects.
• Help troubleshoot issues and ensure policy consistency across the Division.
