Job summary

Ahlstrom in Rhinelander, Wisconsin invites applications for a Mechanical Engineering Intern for Summer 2027. The role supports day-to-day troubleshooting, maintenance execution, and project work in a paper manufacturing setting.

The internship offers hands-on experience in preventative/predictive maintenance, with housing options available and a $27.00 per hour pay rate. Ideal candidates are enrolled in ME programs and ready to work full-time through the season.

Qualifications

• Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
• Enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering, or related degree program.
• Living in or willing to relocate to the Rhinelander, Wisconsin area for Summer 2027; housing stipend available.
• Ability to work full-time for the duration of the position.
• Strong communication and teamwork in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Strong technical aptitude and proven problem solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Review, develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance processes to reduce unplanned downtime and increase overall asset efficiency.
• Work with plant teams and maintenance personnel in identifying and planning daily, weekly, and shutdown work.
• Assist with multiple capital and maintenance projects.
• Initiate and facilitate continuous improvement projects within the maintenance area.
• Investigate maintenance needs as required to support operations.
• Support maintenance craftsman with their day to day tasks.
• Work with suppliers ordering equipment and parts.
• Document equipment specifications and history.
• Provide maintenance coverage for start-ups from outages.
• Assist craftsman in performing repairs when necessary.

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern at our Rhinelander, Wisconsin plant for the Summer of 2027. This individual will aid in the day-to-day troubleshooting of process/reliability problems and execution of maintenance activities in a paper manufacturing environment. Pay Rate

Requirements

• Enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering, or related degree program
• Living in or willing to relocate to the Rhinelander, Wisconsin area for the summer of 2027 – Student Housing or Housing Stipend available
• Ability to work full-time for the duration of the position

Responsibilities

Must follow Ahlstrom’s manufacturing and hygiene processes, procedures and policies, as applicable to the position’s areas of responsibility, in order to meet and maintain the safety, quality, and regulatory compliance requirements for each grade of paper.
