Job summary

Ahlstrom in Wisconsin is offering a Summer Electrical Engineer Intern position at the Kaukauna facility. You will gain hands-on experience supporting electrical systems, reliability initiatives, and capital projects in a paper manufacturing environment.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in Electrical Engineering, with sophomore standing or higher, and an interest in industrial electrical systems, automation, and manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an Electrical Engineering or similar degree program.
• Minimum sophomore standing preferred.
• Interest in industrial electrical systems, automation, controls, or manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

• Follow manufacturing and hygiene processes to meet safety, quality, and regulatory requirements for each grade of paper.
• Assist with troubleshooting and improving electrical and control systems throughout the mill.
• Support engineers with electrical design, modifications, and upgrades to manufacturing equipment.
• Participate in reliability and continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment performance.
• Assist with PLC, instrumentation, motor control, and automation projects.
• Analyze equipment performance data and recommend solutions to improve efficiency and reduce downtime.
• Support capital project planning, execution, and commissioning activities.
• Develop and update electrical drawings, documentation, and technical procedures.
• Work closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to identify and resolve equipment issues.
• Participate in safety programs and help ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards.

Are you with us?!? Thilmany is seeking a motivated and hands‑on Electrical Engineer Intern to join our engineering team for the summer of 2027. This position provides hands‑on experience in a complex manufacturing environment where you will work alongside experienced engineers to support electrical systems, process improvements, reliability initiatives, and capital projects. This role offers a unique opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real‑world engineering challenges while contributing to the safe and efficient operation of a paper manufacturing facility.

Pay Rate

• $27.00 per hour
• Housing stipend available for qualified candidates relocating to the Kaukauna area for the duration of the internship assignment.

Requirements

• Enrolled in an Electrical Engineering or similar Engineering degree program
• Minimum sophomore standing preferred
• Interest in industrial electrical systems, automation, controls, or manufacturing processes.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Comfortable working in a manufacturing setting and spending time on the production floor.
• Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of the organization
• Experience with PLCs, AutoCAD, electrical design software, or industrial automation systems is a plus.
