The U.S. Army NAF at Fort Irwin, CA seeks a skilled Maintenance Mechanic to maintain and repair equipment and facilities. You will perform inspections, estimate materials, and operate a range of trade tools and industrial equipment.

Position requires ability to work in all weather, obtain required licenses (Class C, Forklift, Heavy Equipment Operator within 6 months), and pass pre-employment checks. This is open to U.S. Citizens and eligible nationals.

Summary

This position is located at: NAF Supply/Warehouse - Fort Irwin, CA.

This is an open continuous announcement. All qualified applicants will be forwarded to management on a weekly or as needed basis.

This job is open to U.S. Citizens, Nationals or those who owe allegiance to the U.S.

United States (U.S.) Citizens and Non-U.S. Nationals who have resided in the U.S. or U.S. territory for three (3) or more continuous years immediately preceding the start of Federal affiliation.

Duties

Duties are performed independently in accordance with accepted trade practices and guides. Employee uses judgment to perform duties and resolve most problems that occur.
Serves as Maintenance Mechanic providing maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities.
Makes visual inspections of fixtures and appurtenances as well as building shell, components, and surrounding areas to determine condition and nature and extent of repairs required.
Estimates material and equipment required. Utilizes skills and knowledge of a variety of trades primarily of journeyman, carpentry and plumbing skills and other trades of intermediate skill level, such as mechanical, electrical, and painting.
Operates various types and sizes of motor vehicle and industrial equipment associated with maintenance work requirements.

Requirements

Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required.
Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
A one year probationary period may be required.
Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2 to include a Tier 1 background investigation.
Possession of or the ability to obtain a state driver's license.
Incumbent is required to work in adverse weather conditions(e.g., heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.).
Must complete a pre-employment physical exam.
Incumbent is required is required to obtain a Class C License, Forklift License, and Heavy Equipment Operator License within 6 month from the date of onboarding.

A Qualified Candidate Must Possess The Following

Work experience directly related to the duties described above, to include the skill and knowledge required.
Skill and Knowledge: Expected to be skilled in the techniques used in a variety of trades. (i.e. journeyman level carpentry and plumbing skills, and at intermediate level skill in other trades work. Operate a variety of motorized vehicles. Must be qualified to use a variety of tools such as saws, hammers, metal and wood files, augers, shovels, paint brushes, spray guns, torque wrenches, feeler gages, planes, skill saws, radial arm saw, band saws, chain saws, joiners, electric sanders, pantographs, voltmeter, ohmmeter, fuse tester in the performance of assigned duties

Allowances and Differentials

This job falls under the Federal Wage Schedule (FWS) pay system. FWS employees earn overtime pay for working more than 8 hours in a day or more than 40 hours in a week -- whichever gives the employee more benefit. Regular full-time, regular part-time, and regularly scheduled flexible employees may receive Sunday premium pay for working on Sundays. Employees may also be eligible to receive extra pay if the majority of their scheduled hours falls after 3:00 PM.
