Job description

Maintenance Manager – Manufacturing

Columbia, MO Area | Direct Hire | Full-Time

We are recruiting for an experienced Maintenance Manager to lead maintenance operations for an established manufacturing facility in the Columbia, Missouri area.

This is a hands‑on leadership opportunity for someone who understands what it takes to keep a fast‑paced production environment running. You’ll lead a skilled maintenance team, drive preventive and predictive maintenance strategies, improve equipment reliability, and play an important role in upcoming equipment and automation initiatives.

The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical, electrical, controls, and troubleshooting knowledge with the leadership skills to develop technicians and improve overall maintenance performance.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead and develop a team of maintenance technicians supporting a multi‑shift manufacturing operation.
  • Oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance for production equipment and facility systems.
  • Establish maintenance priorities based on equipment performance, production requirements, downtime, and reliability data.
  • Manage the facility's CMMS, including work orders, maintenance history, spare parts, and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Troubleshoot complex equipment issues involving mechanical, electrical, controls, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Provide hands‑on technical support when difficult equipment or production issues arise.
  • Improve equipment uptime, reliability, and overall maintenance effectiveness.
  • Partner with production, engineering, safety, and other departments to resolve equipment and process issues.
  • Support equipment modifications and upgrades related to safety, quality, capacity, and operational efficiency.
  • Lead maintenance‑related capital projects, including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, vendor coordination, installation, and startup.
  • Support the integration of new automation and manufacturing technologies into existing operations.
  • Develop technicians through coaching, technical training, performance management, and cross‑training.
  • Maintain strong safety standards and ensure maintenance activities comply with applicable OSHA and facility requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement through Lean manufacturing, TPM, 5S, root‑cause analysis, and other reliability‑focused practices.
What We’re Looking For
  • 3–5+ years of maintenance leadership or supervisory experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience leading maintenance technicians supporting automated production equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting knowledge across mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Working knowledge of PLCs and industrial controls.
  • Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, drives, sensors, and other industrial equipment.
  • Experience implementing and/or managing preventive maintenance programs through a CMMS.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze equipment failures and implement corrective actions that reduce recurring downtime.
  • Experience supporting automation projects, equipment installations, upgrades, or capital projects.
  • Working knowledge of Lean manufacturing, TPM, 5S, and continuous improvement principles.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing safety practices and OSHA requirements.
  • ERP/SAP experience is beneficial but not required.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Engineering or another technical discipline preferred.
What Makes Someone Successful Here

We are looking for a maintenance leader who is comfortable on the production floor, not someone who manages exclusively from an office.

You should be able to develop your technicians while still having the technical knowledge to jump into a difficult breakdown, ask the right questions, identify root causes, and help the team get production back online.

Just as importantly, this position is focused on moving maintenance beyond reactive firefighting. The successful candidate will help strengthen preventive maintenance, improve equipment reliability, develop the maintenance team, and support continued investment in automation and manufacturing technology.

This is a direct-hire opportunity offering long‑term stability, technical ownership, and the ability to make a measurable impact on plant performance.

Pay Details: $90,000.00 to $120,000.00 per year
