Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the Foreman oversees and coordinates daily assignments and work orders within the maintenance divisions, ensuring efficient and timely completion of tasks related to cemeteries, streets, bridges, parks, and facilities.
Example of Duties
- Assist the Operations Manager in planning, scheduling, and overseeing cemeteries, streets, bridges, and parks maintenance activities.
- Oversee facility maintenance, including obtaining contractor quotes, scheduling work, tracking invoices, and responding to after-hours building maintenance calls.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of equipment, parts, and supplies.
- Plan and coordinate routine vehicle maintenance; maintain service logs and process receipts.
- Investigate and respond to citizen complaints in the field with professionalism and diplomacy.
- Review work orders, assess the scope of work, and assign tasks to appropriate crews.
- Provide field support to crews as needed to supplement manpower.
- Assist with preparing the annual budget and monitoring expenditures for building maintenance and vehicle/equipment upkeep.
- Lead the Building Maintenance Committee, coordinating initiatives and reporting on progress.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
- Assign work orders in the absence of the Operations Manager and attend departmental meetings to report on daily operations.
- Stay current with trends, practices, and facility and infrastructure maintenance regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Work may occasionally exceed 40 hours per week, including evening or weekend hours as required.
Typical Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Three to five years of experience in city public works activities, one to two years of supervisory experience preferred.
- Knowledge and familiarity with departmental, city, and state rules, regulations, ordinances, and policies.
- Valid Ohio Commercial Driver's License, Class B, with tanker endorsement.
- Knowledge of equipment, operation, and work scheduling; ability to lead crews performing multiple tasks; knowledge of street construction methods and principles of drainage, parks, and facilities maintenance.
