Job summary

Naval station Great Lakes-based role in the Facilities/Maintenance Branch of the MWR Department requires a supervisor with trade proficiency. A license in a major trade is preferred, or two years of trades experience with some formal training.

The candidate must demonstrate strong leadership and the ability to read drawings accurately and communicate clearly in writing and speech. Prior Navy/MWR or military experience is encouraged, along with the aptitude to manage personnel and resources for

  • Experience reading blueprints/drawings and communicating effectively in writing and verbally is required.

Job description

This position is located in the Facilities/Maintenance Branch, Support Division, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department, Naval Station Great Lakes, IL Resumes must include information which demonstrates experience and knowledge, skills, and ability (KSAs) as they relate to this position. Applicants are encouraged to be clear and specific when describing their experience level and KSAs.

A qualified candidate must possess:
  • A certificate or license in at least one of the major trades (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, etc.) is strongly preferred, but may be substituted by a minimum of 2 years of general trades experience with a minimum of one year of documented specialized training and/or experience in a combination of trades listed above.
  • A minimum of two years supervisor experience is required.
  • Prior Navy, MWR or military experience preferred.
  • Must possess documented experience in efficient management of personnel and resources for renovation/repair projects, preferably including MWR or other military non-appropriated fund operations, the ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings accurately, and the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to appraise various program elements, evaluate and effect/recommend improvement to best achieve goals.
  • Must display the ability to adjust work operations to meet urgent or changing situations.
