Job summary

Veeco in Plainview, NY, seeks a Machinist to support engineering development and daily lab operations. You will fabricate, modify, assemble, and test mechanical assemblies using mills, lathes, and related tools from engineering drawings and CAD models.

You will inspect components, assist with prototyping, and collaborate with engineers to improve product performance while documenting processes and results. Proficiency with MS Office and a strong mechanical aptitude are essential.

Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years hands-on experience in mechanical assembly, machine shop operations, equipment maintenance, or prototype fabrication.
High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical certification preferred.
Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered.
Experience in a manufacturing or high-technology environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

Fabricate, modify, assemble, and rebuild complex mechanical and electromechanical assemblies for engineering development.
Operate mills, lathes, drill presses, grinders, and related tools to manufacture prototype components.
Work from engineering drawings, CAD models, schematics, and specifications to fabricate and test hardware.
Inspect components to ensure design and quality compliance.
Support prototyping, testing, validation, upgrades, and process development.
Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and system issues using diagnostic equipment.
Document fabrication processes and test results.
Collaborate with engineers to improve product performance.
