Job summary

Veeco Instruments Inc. in Somerset, NJ is seeking a Manufacturing Technician to build and test complete subsystems, troubleshoot issues, and support engineering during the build process.

You will prepare, assemble, inspect components, and handle processes from inventory to final testing of process equipment. The role requires hands-on electromechanical assembly, familiarity with schematics and blueprints, and the ability to work with precision tools.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED (General Educational Development credential).
• Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience building, testing, and troubleshooting complex electromechanical systems.

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints, process instructions, schematics, mechanical drawings, pictures, and other diagrams to assemble complex assemblies and subassemblies.
• Inspect, test, and adjust completed units to ensure that units meet specifications, tolerances, and customer order requirements.
• Assemble parts or units, and position, align, and fasten units to assemblies, subassemblies, or frames, using hand tools and power tools.
• Position, align and adjust parts for proper fit and assembly. Connect cables, tubes, and wiring, according to specifications. Disassemble units to replace parts or to crate them for shipping.
• Measure parts to determine tolerances, using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and verniers.
• Drill, tap, ream, countersink, and spot-face bolt holes in parts, using drill presses and portable power drills. File, lap, and buff parts to fit, using hand and power tools.
• Operate or tend automated assembling equipment, such as robotics and fixed automation equipment. Operate small cranes to transport or position large parts.
• Conduct tests and inspections of products or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
• Monitor gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
• Troubleshoot and determine causes of operating errors and course of action to correct.
• Perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed, troubleshooting issues, and basic repairs on equipment.
