Rome Grinding Solutions is seeking a hands-on Machining Supervisor in Sheldon, IA. The role splits time between active machining and supervisory duties, guiding a team of machinists to maintain safety, efficiency, and quality.

You will work side by side with the team, leading by example while ensuring priorities are met across production schedules. The ideal candidate has 5+ years in machining and 3+ years in leadership, with strong blueprint reading and precision measurement skills.

Qualifications

• Ability to read blueprints and use precision measuring instruments with accuracy.

Hands-On Leadership | Reporting to: Chief Operating Officer

At Rome Grinding Solutions, we're looking for an experienced machinist who enjoys leading a team while staying actively involved in the work. This is a working supervisor position—not a desk job!

Our Machining Supervisor will split their time between hands-on machining (approximately 50%) and supervisory responsibilities (approximately 50%). This individual will work side by side with our machinists, providing technical guidance, solving problems, and leading by example while ensuring the department operates safely, efficiently, and productively.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead by example by actively performing machining operations alongside the team.
• Supervise, train, mentor, and support machinists to promote quality, productivity, and teamwork.
• Provide hands-on technical assistance with machine setups, troubleshooting, and machining challenges.
• Coordinate daily production priorities, schedules, and deadlines with the Production and Operations teams.
• Monitor department performance, workmanship, and quality standards.
• Communicate tooling, material, and equipment needs to appropriate departments.
• Ensure equipment is properly maintained and promote a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Skills & Qualifications

• Strong hands-on machining experience, including milling and turning operations.
• Working knowledge of CNC machines, tooling, setups, and machining processes.
• Minimum of 5 years machining experience and minimum of 3 years leadership or supervisory experience required.
• Ability to read blueprints and use precision measuring instruments with accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, manual dexterity, and problem-solving abilities.
• Effective leadership, communication, organization, and time-management skills.
• Ability to train, motivate, and manage employee performance in a team-oriented environment.
• Ability to adapt to changing production demands and priorities
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds using appropriate lifting equipment
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Base Pay: $30–$35 per hour, depending on experience.
