Machine Shop Operator I

Location: US-WA-SPOKANE-11135 ~ 11135 W Westbow Ln ~ WESTBOW

Country: United States of America

Position Role Type: Onsite

Machine Shop Operator I is an entry-level position in our Machine Shop. You will learn and be responsible for the set-up, calibration, and operation of machines used in the production process. Training provided on the job. The Machine Shop ensures features are cut into the densified carbon material from Furnace Deck. This highly complex process requires operators to have sound math skills and meticulous attention to detail as well as a mechanically inclined mind.

Rotating Shift Structure
  • 4-on/4-off rotation (6 months off every year!)
  • Rotating day/night shift every 6 weeks
  • 12-hour shifts: 6:00AM–6:00PM / 6:00PM–6:00AM
Compensation
  • Built-in, guaranteed overtime

  • Total annual compensation starting at $50,000 per year
  • $20.50/hr starting pay

Responsibilities
  • You will be part of a team‑oriented atmosphere and interact with other functional groups (e.g., engineering) on technical matters.
  • You will set up CNC machines and run parts (training provided).
  • You will follow a weekly Preventative Maintenance process.
  • You will follow applicable instructions (WI, SOP, Reference documents).
  • You will use precision gauging tools (including CMM), verifying gauge calibration (micrometers, calipers, drills, inserts, etc.).
  • You will identify and document out‑of‑spec conditions.
  • You will complete daily machine inspections, calibration verification.
  • You will follow First Piece Inspection procedure, tools, inserts and their functions.
  • You will adhere to all safety policies (Collins Aerospace Cardinal Rules).
  • You will participate in 5S/continuous improvement processes (ACE).
  • You will observe and follow all environmental, health and safety procedures.
  • You will comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • You will maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • You will adhere to all engineering instruction, standard operation procedures, and all departmental procedures.
  • You will have the ability to prioritize tasks under constantly changing conditions where ingenuity and judgment are required.
  • You will work 4 days on/4 days off – 12‑hour shifts, rotating days to nights every 6 weeks.
What You Will Learn
  • Knowledge of all pertinent customer and company specifications including but not limited to international standards relating to the production of carbon‑carbon brake components & company policies.
  • Completion of all training as assigned in the allotted time.
  • Setup and operation of CNC machines and run parts.
  • Use of forklift and pallet jack.
  • Use of riveters both manual and automated.
  • Use of scales, calipers, micrometers.
  • Use of bar code scanning equipment.
  • Use of various tools (mixes, hotplates, etc.).
  • Operation of the automated oxidation coating station.
  • Operation of oxidation bake out ovens.
  • Operation of power and pneumatic equipment.
Qualifications
  • Typically requires a HS Diploma or a GED.
  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee or asylee status) as defined here: https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-120/subpart-C/section-120.62.
  • Manufacturing or similar industry related experience.
