Machine Shop and Weld Assistant Supervisor

DIRECT REPORTING: Machine Shop and Weld Supervisor

FUNCTIONAL REPORTING: Sr. Production Manager

POSITION DETAILS
Position Summary

The Machine Shop and Weld Assistant Supervisor will support the daily operations of the machine shop and welding departments. This position will work closely with the Machine Shop and Weld Supervisor to ensure that all production goals are met while maintaining safety, quality, and efficiency standards. The role involves managing resources, improving staff capabilities, troubleshooting equipment issues, and assisting in supervising the shop staff. The assistant will develop strategies, implement plans, and validate processes to achieve operational goals.

Principal Activities
  1. Oversee CNC and manual machining centers and the welding area, ensuring safety and production goals are met.
  2. Support strategy development to meet customer commitments and create actionable plans.
  3. Manage resources including personnel, tools, and equipment to meet departmental metrics.
  4. Conduct regular performance feedback and implement procedures to enhance team efficiency.
  5. Develop strategies to meet production goals and maintain quality and efficiency.
  6. Establish communication channels for feedback and utilize company systems to involve employees.
  7. Lead initiatives to improve staff capabilities and performance, ensuring training and mentorship.
  8. Maintain health and safety standards within the manufacturing team.
  9. Review and approve time-keeping activities for accuracy.
  10. Participate in annual employee performance reviews and development planning.
  11. Support additional tasks as assigned by management.
Job Requirements:
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of G and M Codes
  • Basic GD&T understanding
  • Development of Standard Operating Procedures
  • Ability to read complex drawings and blueprints, including calculations of dimensions and datum points
  • Strong EHS awareness
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • High energy, assertiveness, and multitasking capability
  • Ability to influence others and achieve results
  • Organized with strong communication skills

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field
  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training preferred
  • 2-3 years in machine shop/welding operations; 1+ year in leadership
