Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Software Systems Engineer II for the Lunar Permanence program. You will collaborate with flight software, systems, and test engineers to define software across lunar projects and help design test plans that verify requirements.

The role emphasizes safe, repeatable spaceflight, with a focus on fault management, state machines, and verification strategies within a cross-functional engineering team. U.S. citizenship or eligibility is required.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in computer science, computer engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 2-5 years professional experience.
• Experience with C/C++ or Python scripting.
• Demonstrated experience developing software requirements and test cases.
• Hands-on experience with state machine definition, controls theory, or MATLAB Simulink (Stateflow exposure preferred).
• Experience working on a cross-functional engineering team.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Responsibilities

• Develop test cases and scripts against software requirements.
• Independently write and maintain software requirements, verification plans, and test cases for owned scope.
• Participate in fault management discussions and begin contributing to FMEA-driven requirements for assigned subsystems.
• Support HIL/SIL test setup and execution; begin authoring test procedures independently.
• Work directly with flight software, systems, and test engineers to develop software verification test plans.
• Develop tool, test, and verification software as needed.
