Job summary

UFP Industries, Inc. is seeking a lumber grader/handler to inspect and sort softwood SPF and SYP, move and secure materials, and stack according to customer specs. You will label, tag, and package products while following company guidelines.

The role involves operating staple guns, banding, and basic equipment troubleshooting, with emphasis on accuracy, safety, and teamwork. Applicants should be 18+, with preferred manufacturing or lumber experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
• Certification in lumber grading preferred; however non-certified graders will be considered if already in process of training and can be certified.
• No minimum experience is required, but manufacturing or lumber experience is preferred.
• 1-2 years of related experience in lumber grading is preferred.
• Working knowledge of basic math preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Grades and sorts softwood SPF and SYP according to TP/SPIB inspection requirements.
• Moves and secures lumber products and other materials per instructions.
• Stacks finished products according to bundle sizes and customer requirements.
• Labels material by type, size and count per specifications.
• Applies tags to material before/after treating/production.
• Uses a staple gun and troubleshoots equipment.
• Binds and secures material, attaches corner protectors and loading sticks.
• Follows stacking instructions per policy and customer needs.
• Ensures correct quantities and material are strapped and labeled before leaving area.
• Maintains inventory of tags and reports discrepancies to supervisor.
• Records production on production sheets.
• Keeps work area clean and organized.
• Assist other areas with material handling and cart movement.
• Participates in safety, CI and other programs and meetings.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

• Grades and sorts of softwood SPF and SYP in accordance with third party TP / SPIB inspection requirements
• Moves and secures lumber products and other materials according to instructions
• Stacks finished products according to predetermine bundle sizes and/or customer requirements
• Labels material based on type, size and count, and following specifications
• Applies individual tags to material before/after treating/production
• Uses a staple gun and troubleshoots equipment
• Bands, bundles and secures material, including attaching corner protectors and loading sticks
• Follows instructions for stacking material properly and according to company policy and customer requirements
• Ensures correct quantities and material are strapped, labeled before leaving the work area
• Maintains accurate inventory of tags and reports any problems or discrepancies to supervisor
• Records production on production sheets
• Maintains a clean and organized work area
• Assist other work areas moving material, loading and unloading material carts
• Participates in safety, CI and other programs and meetings

Compensation & Benefit Information

Hourly/Salary Pay Range: $20.00 - $22.00 an hour dependent on experience*

*pay range may be adjusted depending on cost of living

Bonus/Incentive Pay:

Incentive pay may be available for certain job roles and may include piece rate incentives, weekly production bonuses, trip rates, and employee referral bonuses. A discretionary annual bonus based on Company and business unit performance may also be provided.
