Job summary

UFP Industries, Inc. in Selma, AL is seeking a versatile lumber grader to support our production team. The role focuses on inspecting and sorting softwood SPF and SYP according to third‑party TP/SPIB standards, while maintaining accurate production records.

Responsibilities include moving, labeling, tagging, stacking, and securing lumber, using a staple gun, and helping with material handling. The position emphasizes safety participation and adherence to company policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED preferred but not required.
• Certification in lumber grading preferred, however non-certified graders will be considered if training can be certified.
• No minimum experience is required, but manufacturing or lumber experience is preferred.
• 3-5 years of related experience in lumber grading is preferred.
• Working knowledge of basic math preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Grades and sorts of softwood SPF and SYP in accordance with TP/SPIB inspection requirements.
• Moves and secures lumber products and other materials according to instructions.
• Stacks finished products according to predetermined bundle sizes and/or customer requirements.
• Labels material based on type, size and count, and following specifications.
• Applies individual tags to material before/after treating/production.
• Uses a staple gun and troubleshoots equipment.
• Bands, bundles and secures material, including attaching corner protectors and loading sticks.
• Follows instructions for stacking material properly and according to company policy and customer requirements.
• Ensures correct quantities and material are strapped, labeled before leaving the work area.
• Maintains accurate inventory of tags and reports problems or discrepancies to supervisor.
• Records production on production sheets.
• Maintains a clean and organized work area.
• Assist other work areas moving material, loading and unloading material carts.
• Participates in safety, CI and other programs and meetings.
