Job summary

Valmont Industries, Inc. in Valley, Nebraska is seeking a Looper Operator to sustain material flow to the tube mill. You will use a 30-ton crane to move heavy steel coils, connect coil ends, and feed them into the mill with a mic Miller 252 welder.

You'll track coil sizes, manage staging, and collaborate with mill and slit operators to keep production on track while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• 1 to 3 years of manufacturing or fabrication experience.
• Basic welding knowledge and operation of mic Miller 252 manual welder.
• Ability to read/write for accurate records.
• Math skills for decimals/fracts and material tracking.
• Must obtain forklift and overhead crane certification.
• Good spatial awareness for heavy equipment operation.
• Strong organizational skills and independent work ability.
• Passion for quality and reliable production.

Responsibilities

• Weld coils to ensure continuous material flow from uncoiler to mill.
• Operate a 30-ton crane to move coils onto the coil tree and stage for mill.
• Connect steel ends by welding and feed into the mill.
• Adjust mill setup for different coil sizes; coordinate with material handler.
• Monitor and record coil inventory and usage daily.
• Work independently while following procedures and adjusting forming sections.
• Communicate with operators, material handlers, and inspectors to resolve issues.
• Maintain forming sections and address mechanical or operational issues.
• Exercise crane safety to prevent coil damage and accidents.
• Perform area maintenance and keep workspace clean and safe.
• Ensure welded coils meet customer specs; final QC by inspectors.
• Use basic math to manage time, coil sizes, and material running vs. stock.
