Streamline Shipping Solutions is part of one of the largest freight brokerage firms in the U.S., while operating as a smaller, independently managed agency. We provide transportation solutions across multiple modes with a strong focus on service, communication, and long-term customer relationships.
As our business continues to grow, we are adding an experienced Logistics Operations Team Lead to lead a growing customer operations pod.
The Role
The Logistics Operations Team Lead is a hands-on leadership position responsible for the daily performance of an operations pod. The role combines customer operations, dispatch, carrier sales, and team leadership. The Team Lead oversees daily shipment execution, supports and develops Operations Coordinators, manages customer priorities, secures carrier capacity, and steps directly into operations when needed. The right person should be comfortable both leading the operation and working within it.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the daily execution of customer shipments across multiple lanes.
- Organize workload and priorities across the operations pod.
- Oversee dispatch, scheduling, tracking, and shipment execution from pickup through delivery.
- Maintain direct communication with customers regarding service, priorities, delays, and exceptions.
- Source and secure carrier capacity through carrier relationships, load boards, and market resources.
- Negotiate carrier rates while balancing service requirements, market conditions, and profitability.
- Monitor driver availability, ETAs, transit times, Hours of Service, appointments, and service risks.
- Lead recovery efforts for carrier fall-offs, late trucks, missed appointments, and other significant service issues.
- Provide direction and support to Operations Coordinators while allowing routine decisions to remain at the coordinator level.
- Train and coach team members on dispatch, customer communication, carrier management, and operational decision-making.
- Establish clear expectations for workload, communication, accuracy, and accountability.
- Review daily workload and identify capacity or service risks before they affect the customer.
- Maintain accurate shipment, rate, carrier, and customer information within the TMS.
- Build reliable carrier relationships and repeat capacity on established lanes.
- Monitor account performance and identify opportunities to improve service, efficiency, and profitability.
- Escalate significant customer, financial, or service concerns to Operations Management when appropriate.
- Remain hands-on with daily operations during volume spikes, staffing gaps, or complex service situations.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Set daily priorities and assign workload.
- Coach and train Operations Coordinators.
- Monitor performance and follow-through.
- Conduct regular check-ins and provide feedback.
- Reinforce operating procedures and customer expectations.
- Develop team members to make sound decisions independently.
- Identify performance or training concerns and work with Operations Management on corrective action when necessary.
- Maintain coverage and continuity within the pod.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in freight brokerage, dispatch, carrier sales, or transportation operations.
- Prior team lead, supervisory, or operations leadership experience preferred.
- Strong Dry Van/FTL experience; container or drayage experience is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple active shipments and competing priorities.
- Experience sourcing carriers and negotiating freight rates.
- Familiarity with DAT, Truckstop, ITS, TMS platforms, or similar transportation systems.
- Working knowledge of driver Hours of Service, transit planning, appointments, and dispatch requirements.
- Strong customer communication and service-recovery skills.
- Ability to make decisions independently and provide clear direction to others.
- Strong attention to detail and operational follow-through.
- Ability to coach employees without taking over every problem.
- Organized, dependable, accountable, and comfortable working in a high-volume environment.
- Knowledge and Experience with MS Office, Teams, Slack, and Outlook
What Success Looks Like
Success in this role means maintaining control of the operation while developing a team that can operate independently. The Team Lead should know what is moving, what is at risk, where capacity is needed, and where the team needs support. Problems should be identified early, ownership should be clear, and customer communication should be proactive.
The goal is not for the Team Lead to personally handle every shipment. The goal is to build a reliable operation where the team understands its responsibilities, makes sound decisions, and knows when escalation is necessary.
