Job summary

J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc. in Michigan is seeking a Manager Trainee to learn the management of small driver counts and non-traditional shifts, including nights and weekends, ensuring safe, on-time freight movement and excellent customer service.

You will train in carrier setup, performance analysis, payroll support, safety compliance, and teamwork with drivers, customers, and internal staff to optimize operations and profitability.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with up to 4 years of related education/experience/training
• Currently enrolled in degree programs with up to 2 years remaining
• Bachelor’s degree with ability to work across multiple shifts including nights/weekends
• Willing to travel to account, customer, & company events when applicable
• Bachelor’s plus 1 year of equivalent education/experience/training; prior internship

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain positive relationships with drivers and carriers to set up new carriers and reduce turnover
• Fill in for absent personnel and work on projects to optimize fleet operations and profitability
• Train drivers and staff on internal and third-party systems
• Improve fleet efficiency and profitability; measure KPIs; present customer-specific reporting
• Manage inventory, assets, and driver assignments to balance equipment
• Handle payroll, budget reports, driver counseling, invoicing, and pay issue resolution
• Oversee yard operations and maintenance coordination
• Coordinate with drivers, customers, and staff to resolve service issues
• Uphold safety culture and DOT compliance; deliver safety messages and trainings
• Assign loads, plan routes, monitor freight movement and ETAs
