The Senate Sergeant at Arms is seeking a Logistics and Operations Specialist #55.

Required Work Experience

• One to three years of experience that provided familiarity with the operation of office equipment and a basic understanding of inventory methods.

Required Special Skills/ Knowledge

• Knowledge of modern inventory control, materials management, and asset management practices.
• Knowledge of, or ability to learn, procurement rules and regulations pertaining to the Senate’s financial and inventory management systems.
• Knowledge of office equipment, computers, relevant software and web applications, spreadsheets, and databases.
• Ability to work on a stock picker elevated above 30 feet above ground level.
• Ability to enter and keep accurate computerized records.
• Ability to test and make minor equipment repairs.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and customers.
• Physical strength, agility, and dexterity required to perform the work.
• Ability to learn traffic routes and the locations of governmental buildings and installations in and around the Washington, D.C. area in confined spaces.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• This position may require the incumbent to be available for sudden recall in response to emergency events affecting the Senate campus or community, which may include after-hours or weekend work, and to potentially deploy to alternate sites in support of the Senate’s contingency operations.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license for at least three years and a good driving record.
• Ability to work on a stock picker elevated above 30 feet above ground level.
• Pallet jack certification.

• Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

Working Conditions

• Since this position requires onsite presence in support of the U.S. Senate when in session, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during a lapse in appropriations, in inclement weather, on holidays, and during late-night, overnight, and weekend sessions. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.
• This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate. As such, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during a lapse in appropriations, in inclement weather, on holidays, weekends, and during late nights to ensure essential services to the Senate continue without interruption. • The person in this position needs to occasionally move, bend, crawl, and stand for long durations.
