Job summary

FedEx Freight in Nitro, WV is hiring a CDL A licensed driver to pick up and deliver freight between service centers and customers while supporting selling activities. Starting rate: $31.32 per hour.

You will perform daily vehicle inspections, handle freight with appropriate equipment, and ensure freight is secured for transport. Responsibilities include coordinating with dispatch, documenting activities, and seeking additional business from customers.

Qualifications

• CDL class A with double/triple, hazmat and tank endorsements; automatic transmission allowed.
• 1 year of experience within the last 3 years or completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
• Acceptable MVR per hiring standards.
• DOT regulatory requirements under FMC 391.
• LCV qualifications apply in listed states if used.
• Ability to count and perform basic math.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to lift up to 100 pounds frequently.
• Sit, bend, twist, squat, and climb in/out of truck.
• Follow instructions and complete required training.
• Work independently or as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combinations and/or straight trucks.
• Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Handle freight using forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck.
• Secure freight with pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when needed.
• Complete required documentation and reports.
• Comply with hazardous material regulations.
• Collect cash or checks for freight charges when required.
• Follow dispatch instructions and report delays or issues.
• Communicate with customers for pick-up/delivery needs and upsell opportunities.
• Provide internal and external customer service.
• Ask for additional business and relay leads to sales.
• May perform tire chaining and other duties as needed.
