Job summary

Estes Express in Buffalo, NY seeks a dock worker to load or unload freight using a forklift, pallet jack, hand truck or by hand, and to strap and pad freight to prevent damage. You will record freight conditions upon arrival and perform pre/post-shift inspections of dock equipment.

Flexibility to work all shifts, overtime and weekends is required; you will contribute to a safe, high-volume service center operation and collaborate with team members to meet tight deadlines.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, or equivalent background
• Must be 17+ years of age
• Experience in the transportation industry preferred
• Stable employment history preferred
• Prior operation of a forklift or forklift certification preferred
• Able to push/pull a loaded pallet jack and/or hand truck with a minimum load of 70 lbs
• Physical activities include standing, walking, lifting, twisting, turning
• Able to work all shifts, including overtime and weekends; dependable
• Able to lift approx. 70 lbs., or more as required
• Comply with all company policies, rules, procedures and Code of Conduct
• Interact well with others
• Work independently or in a team
• Capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment
• Read, interpret and comply with safety rules and manuals with high comprehension
• Pass pre-employment drug screen, random drug/alcohol tests, and background check
• Authorized to work in the United States

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight using forklift, pallet jack, hand truck or by hand
• Strap, brace and pad freight to prevent damage or shifting
• Record the condition of freight as it arrives at the service center
• Perform pre-shift and post-shift inspection of dock equipment
• Maintain regular attendance; work across shifts, overtime, and weekends
