Job summary

California State University, San Bernardino is seeking an Area Coordinator to oversee student development, community engagement, and educational programs within an assigned residence community. The live-on professional will supervise 12–15 Resident Assistants and support student leadership, academics, and wellbeing while enforcing housing policies.

The role requires independent judgment in routine matters, crisis response, and collaboration with campus partners; it includes evening/weekend

Qualifications

• Two years of professional experience in student services or related field; master’s may substitute for one year.
• A four-year college or university degree in behavioral sciences, public/business administration or related field; additional experience may substitute for education.

Responsibilities

• Advise and support residents by assessing concerns and promoting wellbeing.
• Lead Village Council and the Residence Hall Association through meetings, programs, events and leadership guidance.
• Facilitate roommate and community conflict resolution with information gathering, mediation, and follow-up.
• Administer assigned residential conduct cases by reviewing reports, meeting with students, applying policies and documenting outcomes.
• Respond to student crises and after-hours incidents through the housing on-call rotation.
• Provide initial support for student concerns and refer to appropriate resources.
• Prepare and review incident reports and advise student leaders on documentation.
• Develop and evaluate educational, cultural, social, and community-building programs.
• Support Living Learning Communities and campus programs involving minors by coordinating activities.
• Maintain an active presence in residential communities through programs and walk-throughs.
• Provide lead work direction, coaching, and development to Resident Assistants and student leaders.
• Participate in recruitment and selection of student leaders and staff.
• Coordinate daily residential operations including check-ins/outs and safety processes.
• Conduct facility inspections and escalate urgent maintenance or safety issues.
• Maintain residential records and administrative documentation.
• Support campus operations including transport and inventory of materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
