Job summary

UC Santa Cruz is seeking a Coordinator for Residential Education to provide direct support to residential students and to assist with the management of the residential education program. The CRE will focus on community building, program development, and staff supervision within residence halls and apartments.

Under the supervision of an Assistant Director of Residential Education, the CRE leads crisis response, budget management, safety coordination, and collaboration with CHES and other units.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• Direct experience in housing and residence life administration or student affairs.
• General theoretical knowledge base in the area of student development theory or related fields.
• Awareness of diversity in higher education.
• Demonstrated ability to work within a diverse and multicultural setting.
• Strong written communication skills.
• Verbal and interpersonal communication skills sufficient to interact with large groups, families, the public and professionals.
• Assessment and conflict mediation skills.
• Ability to handle crisis situations involving student welfare and safety.
• Experience in recruitment, motivation, goal setting and evaluation of student leaders.
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently with good organizational skills.
• Substantial related administrative and record keeping experience.
• Budget oversight.
• Proficiency with office tools (word processing, spreadsheets, databases).

Responsibilities

• Facilitates development of community and responsibility among residents and supports academic, cultural and social development.
• Participates in planning and implementing comprehensive residential education programs.
• Serves as primary resource for student residential staff in curriculum implementation.
• Supervises and advises college-wide programming and student groups.
• Assesses quality of life in residential units and conducts program evaluation.
• Counsels residents, resolves conflicts and enforces policies.
