Robbins Schwartz seeks an experienced Litigation Paralegal to join our litigation practice group. The role supports attorneys in defending civil rights, employment, tort, and other public-sector liability claims in state and federal court, requiring strong organization and the ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines.

You will organize files, draft routine pleadings and discovery requests, coordinate depositions, review records, and assist with trial preparation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or paralegal certificate from an accredited program.
  • At least two years of litigation paralegal experience.
  • Knowledge of state and federal court procedures and electronic filing systems.
  • Experience supporting discovery and document-production processes.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

Job description

Robbins Schwartz seeks an experienced Litigation Paralegal to join our litigation practice group. At Robbins Schwartz, our attorneys provide practical and efficient representation to school districts, community colleges, municipalities, and other public entities. Our litigation team also defends public-sector claims as panel counsel for many major legal liability carriers.

The Litigation Paralegal will support attorneys in defending civil rights, employment, tort, and other public-sector liability claims in state and federal court. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple matters and deadlines in a fast-paced legal environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist attorneys throughout all phases of litigation, from initial case assessment through discovery, trial, and appeal
  • Organize and maintain electronic and physical case files
  • Draft and prepare routine pleadings, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, notices, correspondence, and other legal documents
  • Coordinate the collection, review, organization, and production of electronically stored information and hard-copy documents
  • Review and summarize medical records, employment records, deposition transcripts, discovery materials, and other case-related documents
  • Create case chronologies, witness files, damages summaries, and other litigation materials
  • Assist with document review, coding, redaction, and production
  • Coordinate depositions, independent medical examinations, witness interviews, and other case-related proceedings
  • Communicate professionally with clients, witnesses, experts, court personnel, opposing counsel, and third-party vendors
  • Conduct factual research and assist attorneys with case investigations
  • Monitor court dockets, filing requirements, and case deadlines
  • Prepare exhibits, witness materials, trial binders, and other materials for hearings, depositions, and trials
  • File documents in state and federal courts using applicable electronic filing systems
  • Assist with trial preparation and provide support during hearings and trials, as needed
  • Accurately record billable time and meet the firm’s minimum billable-hour requirements
  • Perform other litigation and administrative duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or paralegal certificate from an accredited program
  • At least two years of litigation paralegal experience
  • Knowledge of state and federal court procedures and electronic filing systems
  • Experience supporting discovery and document-production processes
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys and other members of the legal team
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, document-management systems, and legal technology
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with civil defense, employment, civil rights, tort, insurance-defense, or public-sector litigation
  • Familiarity with Illinois state and federal court procedures
  • Experience with e-discovery platforms and large-scale document productions
  • Trial preparation and in-court support experience
