Job summary

Merchants Insurance Group is seeking a Litigation Claims Adjuster to join our Mt. Laurel, New Jersey office. You will handle complex auto and general liability claims in collaboration with internal staff, policyholders, attorneys, and service providers.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience in commercial lines claims, with knowledge of New York Labor Law and liability issues. A 4-year degree is required, and JD or defense experience is a plus. Hybrid work supports two in-office days.

Qualifications

• 4-year degree or equivalent work-related experience.
• 5+ years’ experience handling commercial lines claims.
• JD and insurance defense experience encouraged.
• Ability to oversee defense counsel and develop resolution strategies.
• Professional designations or working towards industry designations are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Cultivating relationships with claims, policyholders, attorneys, agents and service providers to achieve optimal outcomes.
• Managing a portfolio of complex and high-exposure litigated claims.
• Evaluating coverage by interpreting policy language and preparing coverage letters.
• Conducting timely and quality claim investigations and equitable settlements.
• Ensuring timely reserves consistent with established reserving practices.
• Negotiating fair settlements directly with attorneys.
• Identifying risk transfer opportunities through contracts and applicable law.
