Job summary

Merchants Insurance Group in Melville, NY seeks a Litigation Claims Adjuster to join the Claims Legal Team. You will handle auto and general liability claims, interfacing with policyholders, attorneys and service providers, while advancing favorable resolutions.

The role focuses on complex claims, coverage interpretation, and collaboration with internal teams. Hybrid schedule requires two in-office days weekly with flexible remaining days.

Qualifications

• 4-year degree or equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years’ experience handling commercial lines claims.
• Experience with New York Labor Law, construction defect and/or third-party property damage claims is a plus.
• JD and insurance defense experience encouraged.
• Strong organization, negotiation, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Cultivate relationships with claims staff, policyholders, attorneys, agents and service providers to achieve optimal outcomes for Merchants and policyholders.
• Manage a portfolio of complex and high exposure litigated claims.
• Evaluate coverage by interpreting policy language and prepare coverage letters.
• Conduct and direct timely claims investigation, evaluation and equitable settlement.
• Maintain timely and accurate reserves consistent with reserving practices.
• Negotiate fair settlements directly with attorneys.
• Identify risk transfer opportunities through appropriate law.
