Job summary

Merchants Insurance Group in Buffalo, New York, is seeking a Litigation Adjuster to join our Claims Legal Team at our Corporate Headquarters. The role focuses on auto and premises liability claims, including New York Labor Law, construction defect, and third-party property damage.

This position offers a hybrid work schedule with two in-office days each week and flexible remote options. You will work with policyholders, attorneys, and service providers to investigate, evaluate, and settle complex

Qualifications

• 4-year degree or equivalent work-related experience required.
• Experience handling commercial lines claims; NY Labor Law, construction defect or third-party property damage exposure a plus.
• JD with insurance defense experience encouraged to apply.
• Ability to oversee defense counsel and manage experts and settlements.
• Professional designations or pursuing industry designations are a plus.
• Exceptional organization, negotiation, and written/verbal communication skills required.

Responsibilities

• Cultivate relationships with claims staff, policyholders, attorneys, agents and service providers to optimize outcomes.
• Manage a portfolio of complex and high-exposure litigated claims.
• Interpret policy language to evaluate coverage and draft timely coverage letters.
• Oversee investigations, evaluation and fair settlements of assigned claims.
• Maintain reserves consistent with reserving philosophy and practices.
• Negotiate settlements directly with attorneys.
• Identify risk transfer opportunities via contracts and applicable law.
