Job summary

Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) seeks a Software / Network Engineer with strong Linux expertise to support the 53d TEG EOU at Nellis AFB, NV. You will contribute to standup and ongoing experimental operations for the Air Force's Collaborative Combat Aircraft unit.

The role focuses on software for CCA flight simulation, autonomy systems, and related projects. Candidates should show problem-solving, adaptability, leadership, and teamwork in a dynamic, secure environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years’ experience as Software Engineer.
• CompTIA Security+ certification required.
• Proficiency with Linux OS.
• Experience in Windows Server administration.
• Experience with system monitoring and performance tuning.
• Strong scripting skills (Bash, Python).
• 6+ years administering Linux systems (Red Hat/CentOS/Ubuntu).
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong teamwork, leadership, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide overall software engineering support to experimental units.
• Coordinate with US Government and external vendors.
• Ensure flight simulation software meets requirements and tests.
• Analyze data from simulations to assess performance.
• Troubleshoot and fix software issues during development and testing.
• Gather pilot feedback to improve realism and usability.
• Manage software configuration and version control for stability.
• Prepare clear experimentation reports with findings and recommendations.
• Collaborate with engineers, operators, maintainers, and analysts.
• Install, configure, and maintain servers/workstations.
• Perform security hardening and audits per policies.
• Run security scans (ACAS, ClamAV) and manage access controls.
• Automate tasks with scripting; establish containers (Docker/Podman).
• Lead and participate in multi-disciplinary teams.
