Job summary

TierPoint LLC is seeking a Linux Engineer I to join the 24x7 Linux OS team supporting managed services customers. The role emphasizes strong Linux knowledge and excellent customer communication to translate technical issues for non-technical stakeholders.

The engineer will participate in on-call rotations, install and operate Linux environments, and collaborate with other teams to maintain service availability for TierPoint customers.

Qualifications

• Technical training in IT, engineering, computer science or equivalent experience.
• Excellent customer facing communication skills (both written and verbal).
• 1 year of experience of managing enterprise Linux environments.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve basic issues associated with the operating systems.
• Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8 or higher.
• Experience with Ubuntu 20.04LTS or higher.
• Experience using yum and Linux OS patching.
• Experience working with VMware technologies.

Responsibilities

• Provides quality internal and external customer service surrounding the Company values.
• Manage the flow of incoming customer requests to maintain Customer Request Fulfillment process expectations
• Communicate expectations, assignments and responsibilities clearly and professionally.
• Participate in an on-call escalation support rotation to ensure 24x7x365 coverage for critical infrastructure and customer systems.
• Plan, install, and provide daily operational support for managed customer Linux environments
• Ensure timely resolution of high severity incidents, including communications, reporting, and tracking of follow-ups.
• Follows technical documentation for customer environments, processes, standards, and support procedures.
• Collaborate closely with other operations teams and architecture to efficiently resolve service incidents; ensuring service availability levels are met.
• Desire to improve upon existing systems and automate processes, including writing and maintaining documentation
• Other duties as assigned.
