Job summary

Chain Electric Company is seeking an experienced A-Lineman to perform skilled electrical work in distribution and transmission systems, including underground and overhead lines. The role may involve supervising others and requires adherence to safety standards in varied weather and hazardous conditions.

Responsibilities include climbing poles, installing equipment, testing lines, and coordinating with colleagues to ensure safe operations and timely maintenance.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 4 years of directly related experience.
• Must possess a valid CDL-B license.
• Must own tools.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
• Ability to read and follow instructions.
• Ability to perform physically demanding construction duties in harsh weather conditions.
• Ability to hear long distances.
• Ability to see long distances with color vision and depth perception.
• Ability to work without supervision.
• Ability to communicate well with others.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to safety practices and procedures, such as checking equipment regularly and erecting barriers around work areas.
• Open switches or attach grounding devices to remove electrical hazards from disturbed or fallen lines or to facilitate repairs.
• Climb poles or use truck-mounted buckets to access equipment.
• Place insulating or fireproofing materials over conductors and joints.
• Safely construct, maintain, and repair electrical overhead and underground distribution systems and substations, including conduits, cables, wires, and related equipment.
• Identify defective sectionalizing devices, circuit breakers, fuses, voltage regulators, transformers, switches, relays, or wiring, using diagrams and testing instruments.
• Drive vehicles equipped with tools and materials to job sites.
• Coordinate work assignment preparation and completion with other workers.
• Inspect and test power lines and auxiliary equipment to locate and identify problems, using reading and testing instruments.
• String wire conductors and cables between poles and other structures, setting lines in place and adjusting tension.
• Test conductors, according to diagrams, to identify corresponding conductors and prevent incorrect connections.
• Replace or straighten damaged poles.
• Attach cross-arms, insulators, and auxiliary equipment to poles.
• Travel to inspect lines for obstruction and insulation.
• Dig holes and set poles using cranes and power equipment.
• Splice cables using hand tools, epoxies, or specialized equipment.
• Cut and peel insulation from cables prior to splicing.
• Splice conductors by twisting or soldering connections.
• Pull up cable by hand from reels.
• Lay underground cable in trenches or through conduits.
• Cut trenches for laying underground cables.
