Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for complying with Safety work rules at all times and reinforcing Safety as a Core Value. Ensures that all policies, procedures, and activities related to Food Safety & Quality are followed and complied with uniformly to reduce product and process variability.
The Utility Person performs quality checks on a specified line, ensuring all packed product meets customer specifications before shipping, and provides coverage on that line. This role helps ensure personnel follow GMPs and only pack acceptable product. The person is proficient in all positions and tasks within the department.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assumes responsibility for maintaining a safe and healthy workplace for all.
- Adheres to safety policies and incorporates safety and health in all tasks.
- Ensures regulatory compliance at all times.
- Can pack product at any of the 5 lines or in the Cooked Department's ovens.
- Performs weight/quality checks, metal detector checks, and records data in the RedZone Compliance Module.
- Performs start-up line checks and shut-down procedures.
- Proficient in machine setup and troubleshooting in the packaging area, including tape machines and box makers.
- Assists in break and lunch coverage as needed.
- Determines if product meets specifications and informs supervisor or takes corrective action.
- Coaches line workers on acceptable vs. unacceptable product to reduce shrink.
- Performs Autonomous Maintenance line walks, records motor temperatures and vibrations, and documents findings in the iPad.
- Adheres to safe work practices, GMP, and HACCP guidelines, maintains sanitary conditions, and ensures product quality to sustain SQF Level 3 certification.
- Reports conditions or practices that may affect food safety, quality, or safety.
- Maintains a positive work atmosphere through effective communication and teamwork.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience Required:
- High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
- Ability to read and understand instructions, memos, and correspondence.
- Ability to write simple correspondence and present information effectively.
- Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, and ability to interpret graphs.
- Ability to understand and carry out written, oral, or diagram instructions.
- Ability to handle problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations.
- Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) Certification.
Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills:
- Good verbal and communication skills; ability to work well with others.
- Self-motivated with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of the Cooked Department, with up to 6 months of experience or equivalent education and experience.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs safely.
- Ability to work indoors in a damp environment for the duration of the shift.
- Ability to travel stairs.
- Understanding of cross-contamination issues and how to avoid them.
- Proper PPE usage.
- Knowledge of customer specifications.
- Ability to retain and apply knowledge.
- Experience operating specific equipment or tools.
- Proficiency with computers, iPads, and software such as spreadsheets and word processing.
