Location Description

Michael Foods, Inc. is located in Klingerstown, Pennsylvania, known for their community events such as ice cream socials at Klingerstown Lutheran Parish, fishing rodeo, and fireman's parade.

Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position requires compliance with Safety work rules at all times and reinforces Safety as a Core Value. Ensures all policies, procedures, and activities related to Food Safety & Quality are followed to reduce product and process variability.

The Utility Person performs quality checks on a specified line, ensuring all packed product meets customer specifications before shipping, and provides coverage on that line. They ensure personnel follow GMP’s and only pack acceptable product. The person should be proficient in all department positions and tasks.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ensure a safe and healthy workplace for everyone.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and incorporate safety and health in all tasks.
  • Maintain regulatory compliance at all times.
  • Have the ability to pack product on any of the 5 lines or at the ovens in the Cooked Department.
  • Perform weight/quality checks, metal detector checks, and document data in the RedZone Compliance Module.
  • Conduct morning start-up line checks and perform shut-down procedures.
  • Proficiently set up and troubleshoot machines in the packaging area, including tape machines and box makers.
  • Assist in break and lunch coverage as needed.
  • Determine if product meets specifications, inform supervisors, or take corrective actions.
  • Coach line workers on acceptable vs. unacceptable products to reduce shrink.
  • Perform daily and weekly Autonomous Maintenance line walks, recording motor temperatures and vibrations, with findings documented in the iPad.
  • Follow GMP and HACCP guidelines, maintain sanitary conditions, and ensure product quality to uphold SQF Level 3 certification. Report any conditions affecting food safety, quality, or safety.
  • Maintain a positive work environment through effective communication and teamwork.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
  • Ability to read, understand, and communicate simple instructions, memos, and short correspondence.
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and interpretation of graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense and problem-solving skills in standardized situations.
  • Good verbal and communication skills and ability to work well with others.
  • Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) Certification.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:

  • Self-motivated with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of the Cooked Department, with up to 6 months experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs safely.
  • Ability to work indoors in a damp environment for the duration of the shift.
  • Ability to navigate stairs.
  • Understanding of cross-contamination issues and prevention.
  • Proper PPE usage.
  • Knowledge of customer specifications and ability to retain and apply knowledge.
  • Skill in operating specific equipment and working with computers and iPads, including spreadsheet and word processing software.
