Job description

Overview

The Line Cook is responsible for providing the highest quality food preparation, plate presentation, and prompt service to all residents. He/she must possess general knowledge in various food preparation techniques, serving methods, portion control standards, and general nutritional requirements for residents of retirement housing communities.

Responsibilities

• Assist Dietary Supervisor with breakfast, lunch, or dinner preparation, production, or service lines
• Prepare hot and cold items as designated by Dietary Supervisor
• Prepare soups, sauces, salads, and desserts according to established standards and recipes
• Follow all health department practices, safety practices, and infection control practices
• Discuss and resolve any potential food service and care coordination issues promptly with team members and leaders
• Coordinate with Dietary Supervisor to manage leftovers and inventories to control costs
• Break down service line and clean work area as scheduled or instructed
• Engage with residents by communicating with team members, reviewing resident records, and direct conversations to foster community relations
• Maintain professionalism and a customer service orientation with residents and team members
• Present a professional demeanor that reflects the company's philosophy of service, goodwill, and genuine interest in residents' needs
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Experience/Education

• Formal training or on-the-job experience in resident care techniques
• Experience as an on-line cook in food services preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions routinely
• Compassion for senior adults is required
