Position Summary

The mission of Hope the Mission is to prevent, reduce, and eliminate poverty, hunger, and homelessness by offering immediate assistance and long-term solutions. Our approach is individualized and non-judgmental.

The Line Cook is responsible for food preparation, including chopping, mixing, sautéing, frying, grilling, or baking. They should have a deep knowledge of various cooking methods, ingredients, and cuisines, and be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Attention to detail and hygiene are crucial. This role involves high-volume production and reports to the Chef de Cuisine, working alongside Prep Cooks and Lead Cooks.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Food Preparation: Skilled in preparing a wide range of dishes and ingredients, handling different meats, seafood, vegetables, and other ingredients, with knowledge of various techniques.
  • Quality Control: Ensures dishes meet high standards for quality and presentation, making adjustments as needed.
  • Kitchen Efficiency: Maintains organized workflows, manages setup and upkeep of workstations, and ensures ingredients and tools are available.
  • Training and Supervision: Assists in training new staff, providing guidance to less experienced cooks.
  • Inventory Management: Follows FIFO procedures, restocks inventory, and reports low stock levels.
  • Health and Safety: Enforces safety standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Proper use and reporting of equipment issues.
  • High-Volume Cooking: Manages large orders efficiently without compromising quality.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Works closely with team members and communicates effectively.
  • Equipment Handling: Operates, maintains, and cleans kitchen equipment.
  • Organization and Cleanliness: Keeps work areas clean and organized.
  • Food Service: Serves food to residents, employees, or patrons.
  • Work Environment: Able to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50lbs, and work weekends and holidays.
Other Requirements
  • Assist with bakery, staff meals, and special events as needed.
  • Follow food safety regulations.
  • Perform additional tasks with a positive attitude.
Qualifications and Experience
  • 3+ years of culinary experience, preferably in high-volume settings.
  • Experience in fast-paced environments.
  • Food handler certification; culinary degree preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Background checks, drug, and TB testing required.
  • FLSA: Non-Exempt.
Physical and Environmental Conditions

Must be able to perform physical tasks such as standing for long periods, lifting up to 50lbs, and working in various environmental conditions. Accommodations may be provided for disabilities.
